Sharp Electronics (UK)
Founded in Japan in 1912, Sharp Electronics is a world-leading developer and manufacturer of electronic equipment, appliances and components, offering one of the widest portfolios of business and lifestyle products under any single brand name. In addition to its renown in the fields of high definition LCD and document solutions, Sharp is also the world’s largest manufacturer of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules. The company has numerous world firsts to its credit, including the recent development of the groundbreaking four colour Sharp Quattron technology, set to revolutionise standards for TV picture quality.
As a world-leader in its own field, Sharp was looking for sponsorship partners who shared a similar hunger to be the best, and is therefore proud to be a headline sponsor of the UK’s leading pro-continental team, Rapha Condor Sharp. Sharp has a long and successful history of sports sponsorship in the UK, and sees professional cycling as offering new and exciting opportunities in a fast-growing sport, which remains accessible to its many fans. Sharp is fully committed to working with the Rapha Condor Sharp team to maximise its performance and consolidate and build on the excellent results this far.
Sharp’s relationship with the team began in conjunction with the company’s ongoing partnership with the Prostate Cancer Charity. The Sharp4Prostate logo appeared on the team jersey at the 2009 Tour of Britain and the Tour of Ireland, helping raise awareness throughout the cycling community of the most common cancer in men. As part of a series of fundraising events to help raise £100,000 for the charity, Paul Molyneux, Sharp UK’s Managing Director, will be completing the gruelling Race Across America (RAAM) in June 2010, a 3,000 mile cycle race from the West to East coast of the USA, taking in 14 states in just seven days – 430 miles a day and climbing to heights of over 100,000 feet.
