Series Success for Deano · 23/09/09
As the squad for the Tour of Britain partied the night away in London on Saturday night, one member, who had also been in London (this time as a spectator), was making the long drive north for another day at the office.
On a sunny afternoon in Preston it was Dean Downing who added to the long list of Rapha Condor victories in 2009, as he took the overall title in the Elite Mens National Circuit Series. A 4th place finish was enough to see him take the series with 322 points against 247 for his closest challenger and winner on the day, Graham Briggs.
Speaking at the finish of the race Dean said:
Winning the series title overall is a great end to my season, my goals were the crits and it seems to have worked out, a couple of wins in the Tour Series, a couple in the BC series and a few podiums along the way, John and the guys in the team have been great in supporting me in that decision and I’d like to thank them all.
The race in Preston pretty much wraps up Dean’s season in the UK, but there are still races to be won in Australia where Dean will ride a number of races along with his team mates. Reflecting on 2009 Deano said:
It’s been a good year all round for me and I still have the SunTour in Australia. Now I just hope we get some sunshine in Oz and we can hit the beach, only joking John!
