Jonathan Tiernan-Locke wins Jock Wadley Memorial road race · 14/03/10

It was one of the new faces on the Rapha Condor Sharp team who took centre stage on Sunday 14th March in Essex. Jonathan Tiernan Locke rode the last 20km of the Jock Wadley Road Race, promoted by Colchester Rovers, alone to take victory.

Having ridden across with one other rider to an earlier four man move, JTL attacked his breakaway companions with 2 laps to go and wasn’t seen again until the end of the race. Behind the lead group the team were again well represented as Tom Southam, Dan Craven and Kristian House were all in the main chase group should their team mate falter in front.

Speaking after the weekend’s races John Herety declared himself pleased with the achievements of the riders over the weekend.

“The guys were always in control throughout both races, we always had plenty of options and were never totally reliant on one rider which bodes well as we approach Normandy in a week or so. These races have been good for the lads, racing without radios now means they’ve had a bit of chance to hone their communication skills out on the road too. All in all I’m pleased with what I’ve seen so far”

Meanwhile the remainder of the team were in more exotic climes as the Tour of Taiwan got underway. On stage 1 the team demonstrated their readiness to challenge as Dean Downing was prominent in the bunch gallop, finishing 7th according to early reports.
