Herne Hill Good Friday Meeting
Chris Newton kicked off the weekend with a fine performance in the Points Race at the Good Friday International Track Meeting at Herne Hill.
Chris was in the thick of it during the race which is now named the Ed Taylor Memorial. He was in a move that stayed away until the end of the race and having already amassed enough points to win Chris also took the final sprint in style to cross the line first. Girvan Premier Calendar Race
Chris then flew up to Scotland to join the rest of the boys for the Girvan 3 day Premier Calendar race. The race started well for the team with Simon Richardson in 3rd position at 15 seconds after the first stage. The team had been active througout the stage being part of numerous breaks.
Kristian was also firing with a 3rd place in the second stage Criterium.
Stage 3 saw Kristian take over the lead in the Sprints Competition and Simon retained his spot on GC at 15 seconds behind the leader, Tom Murray.
All was set for a big attack on the final stage over a tough course. The whole race was turned upside down when a big crash took out some of the main contenders including our own Simon Richardson, breaking his frame and completely destroying his front wheel. Kristian managed to avoid the carnage and made it into the main move through all of the confusion, again taking 3rd on the stage and moved up to 6th overall while Tom Southam jumped up to 11th. Ben Greenwood finished 21st, Darren Lapthorne 23rd and Chris Newton 25th. Kristian retained the Sprints Jersey. Unfortunately the results don’t show the current form as without the big crash on stage 4 it could have been a different story.

Tour of the North
While all this was going on Dean lead a 4 man team including RaphaCondor youngsters Matt Cronshaw, Liam Holohan and Mike Rudling in the tough Tour of the North in Northern Ireland.
The boys showed they are coming on nicely with a fine performance. Dean started the ball rolling by getting in the winning move on stage 2, beating his breakaway companions to win the stage in style. Liam Lead Dean out superbly to win the bunch sprint on stage 4. Liam, Matt and Mike were praised by Dean for all the hard work leading up to the finale, contributing to the team win. Dean was now lying 2nd overall at 29 seconds.
The final stage saw the team working well and getting Dean into the main break of the day, putting him as ‘leader on the road’ for a while. There were a few other teams who had eyes on the overall prize, including the current race leader so they all pulled together to bring the break back. Once it was all back together the boys showed their attacking form with Matt going clear for the last 15 miles to take the stage win on his own.
They finished with Dean 2nd overall and 2 stage wins, Matt was winner of the Under 23 Competition, 7th overall and 1 stage win, Liam was 2nd in the Under 23 Competition and 8th overall and Mike worked hard for the team and learned a lot from Dean. Mike has only been cycling for 2 seasons and is showing great promise.
