Deano destroys Dumfries · 01/06/10

Frustrated by the finish of the circuit race on Friday and fresh from a few days away from the bike, Dean Downing was especially motivated to make amends on Sunday. It was no surprise to see him as one of two Rapha Condor Sharp riders who made the lead group of 20 that went away after half distance in the Dumfries Bike Fest Grand Prix. The other half of the Rapha Condor Sharp duo in that move was Graham Briggs and whilst the circuit around Dumfries was new, Dean and Graham had had plenty of opportunity to study the finish on each of the stages of the Tour Doonhame earlier in the year.

As it became clear that the break was unlikely to be caught, Graham and Dean hatched a plan based on Graham’s knowledge of the run in to the finish. Dean would attack in the last 2 miles but if caught he would still have time to recover and lead out the sprint for Graham. However, Dean’s attack went unanswered bar a late surge from Matt Stephens of Specialized and he crossed the line alone for a rewarding victory. Graham meanwhile took the sprint for third to put two Rapha Condor Sharp riders on the podium.

From Dumfries the team have relocated to the other end of the country to Portsmouth where they ride in the enext Tour Series event. The team for that is Dean Windsor, Dean Downing, Graham Briggs, Zak Dempster and Kristian House.
