Aussie RCS contingent make solid start to 2010 · 11/01/10

Following on from Dean Windsor’s excellent 2nd place in the Criterium Championship last week, the Australian members of Rapha Condor Sharp showed they’ll be able to go the distance when the season gets underway in the UK with some impressive riding against pro-tour opposition.

Best placed of the boys in black was Zak Dempster who took 16th place, second in the bunch sprint behind a sizeable breakaway that escaped early in the race never to be caught.

Speaking after the race, Zak described how events unfolded:

“It was a weird race, 12 guys went up the road early and everyone looked at Columbia to set the pace, but they never quite got it under control. I was climbing quite well, trying to stick with Lloyd and Rogers then I started attacking with two laps to go.”

The team’s other representative in the race, Darren Lapthorne, was a non finisher, but not before making his presence felt with a number of attacks at five laps to go before losing contact with the bunch.

With both riders preparing for the European season and with their best form yet to come, the signs are good that the 2010 Rapha Condor Sharp line-up will be the best yet when the team gathers in the UK at the end of the month.
