Workshop Tips by Andy Verrall: Make a note of your bike set-up · 10/12/09
It’s that time of year when cycling teams are busy sorting out new bikes for next season, and something that a professional rider should always have written down are their bike measurements.
There are certain dimensions that do not change; you just move things around to get them to fit to a particular frame. Below is a template that many teams use and it shows the critical dimensions along with some other information about the set-up of a bike. I would consider the information on this as the minimum that is needed.

The measurements:
- A. Saddle Height: from middle of BB axle in a straight line up through the frame and seat post to the saddle
- B. Bar Height: from the middle of the front spindle in a straight line up through the head tubs to the top of the stem
- C. Reach: from the tip of the saddle to the centre of the bars
- D. Set Back: from the tip of the saddle to a line taken from the centre of the BB axle
The Reach is measured to the centre of the bars and not the centre of the stem.
The Seat Tube is measured centre of the bottom bracket to top of the tube.
The Top Tube is measured centre to centre.
The Set Back is measured from the nose of the saddle to the centre line of the bottom bracket
Also make a note of your stem length, crank length and bar width.
