Rapha Condor Race Series Round 4 results · 29/06/10

With many riders arriving to contest points at Hog Hill this weekend, heated battles ensued, especially in the E/1/2/3 race at the end, making for a dramatic day of racing in temperatures soaring over the 30 deg C mark.

The women’s race was completed at almost the same speed as the 3/4 men, seeing Jo Mundon taking a decisive victory against a strong field. The 3/4 men’s race was also hotly contested with Kyamns Crump narrowly beating Junior rider Tao Geoghegan Hart in the sprint.

The E/1/2/3 race saw an early break away group forming and whittled down to three riders: Daniel Santoni (Mstina), Lewis Atkins (Orbea) and Cameron Austin (London Dynamo). The trio managed to stay away for most of the race, their lead extending to almost a minute, with Luke Rejan (Team Teachin) fighting a lone battle in between the two groups, but by three laps to go their lead came down to just 10 seconds.

At this stage the peloton gambled on the group giving up and assumed they’d be reeled in, but tactics came into play and the lead, frustratingly for the peloton, went back out again to around 30 seconds in the space of one lap. With 2 laps to go some last chance attacks came from the peloton to try and join Rejan or the front group, but to no avail. Santoni took the sprint of the three with Rejan managing to hold on for fourth.

A decision by the commissaires at the end of the race put Cameron Austin out of the standings and Rejan elevated to third. The reason for the decision was due to a mid-race verbal altercation between Austin and the commissaire. A heated afternoon indeed!
