Ras Playlist

Just to keep everyone up to date, Sunday sees the start of many a rider’s favourite race; The FBD Ras in Ireland.

I have been fortunate enough to look after teams that have won this race three times in the past, twice with Chris Newton and once with Kristian House. This year these two will line up alongside a former yellow jersey holder and stage winner from last year, Simon Richardson. While two Ras ‘Virgins’, Darren Lapthorne and Tom Southam complete the Rapha-Condor team line up.

This is without doubt the strongest five-man team I have ever taken to the race, and will be part of what I believe to be the races best ever field. Having only five men to a team always makes this race very difficult to get right tactically, the lead often changing over the first few days as it is very hard for one team to take control.

You can check out my press release for the event and follow the team’s progress at http://www.fbdinsuranceras.com/event

Now on a more serious note, as you may of gathered Tom Southam likes his music, as do I, and over the years we have shared this love affair to what I thought was mutual gain, however the relationship is now over.

After I challenged him about his latest couch grooves contribution to the website, (I told him I thought he was being purposely obscure and selecting titles as opposed to tunes), and despite me knowing and indeed having some of the tracks Tom selected, he called me old and no longer at the cutting edge of music. This got me thinking, and you know what, maybe he’s right. Sorry Tom it’s over, it’s time to move on, maybe I am getting old; there’s certainly a big country influence in this year’s Ras playlist, but you know what, I’m over you!

This will be the 6th Ras I have been to and each year I have created music compilation cd’s to listen to during race transfers, inflicting my own car grooves on unsuspecting riders. I even put in a bit of comedy over the years with Bill Hicks and Denis Leary proving to be a hit with some riders (but not always all).

Anyway here’s this year’s list which thanks to the iPod is now longer than in previous years. Listen and weep guys or make sure you bring headphones.

Make up your own minds folks, push the boundaries and check some of these tunes out, you might be older than you think.

P.S. Tom, No need to purchase a cowboy boots and a hat just yet!
