New frame gets seal of approval from the pros

The Leggero road frame conforms to the mantra set by Rapha, Condor and Sharp by achieving exceptional standard of both style and quality. But the signature full carbon frame gets much more than a makeover for 2010.
“With victories in every kind of race and on every type of course, we could have sat back, but we’re always trying to improve just like the global brands our bikes race against,.” explains Neil Manning, Production Director. “Dean and Kristian are excellent at putting the frames through their paces and providing honest feedback, just like the rest of the team, mechanics and management. It’s an invaluable relationship to have.”
Throughout 2009 team riders were closely involved in developing the bicycles, not only for professional use but also for consumers. Both Dean Downing and National Road Champion, Kristian House, pushed prototypes to their limit in tough race conditions including putting their faith in the new design for the Tour of Britain. The result: the new frame was given the seal of approval.
For 2010 there is a new rear end which is lighter and more compliant than in 2009 and complements the responsive front. The asymmetric head tube will again flare from 1 in 1/8 at the top to 1 in ½ at the bottom, the idea being that the greater area helps spread the load and dissipate shocks, whilst still being stiff when the rider is putting power through the front end in a sprint.
Condor continues to use a mix of material from Dedacciai. Each tube is cut and wrapped by hand then strengthened using strategic pieces of carbon. This is not just a custom process for team riders, but features on all Leggero framesets. The High Modulus T900 carbon fibre is produced in Japan by world leader, Toho Tenax, using nano carbon resins.
A new feature for 2010 is internal routing to allow for compatibility with Shimano Di2, a groupset being used by riders next season. Other team bikes in the Rapha Condor Sharp arsenal are fitted with Shimano Dura Ace 7900 groupsets and Dura Ace wheels.
The standard colour for the new Leggero is white though the team will ride a limited edition black frame with pink accents.
Technical Detail
- Frame weight 900g
- Carbon tubeset made using four layers of uni-directional and two directional high modulus carbon layers. Resin containing nano pieces of carbon. This is compressed and resin is forced out while the carbon pieces randomly fills gaps in the fibre, tubing can be made thinner and lighter whilst increasing strength.
- Using the nano technology, the nano pieces of carbon are randomly dispersed so stress won’t travel in straight lines providing a more comfortable ride
- New cut out rear section for increased compliancy
- Deda Nero Supermacy full carbon monocoque fork
- Full Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 groupset, (some riders will use Shimano Di2 groupset)
